MUMBAI report: India's steel consumption totalled 5.5 million tons in April, rose 7.1% compared to the same month last year, latest data from the Joint Plant Committee (JPC) showed.

Steel production in India during April totalled 7.3 million tons, advanced slightly by 0.5% year-on-year.

Among them, SAIL produced around 843,000 tons of steel products, up by 1.4%; and that of RINL's output totalled 213,000 tons, climbing by 0.5% year-on-year.
